In this episode Valerie walks you through how “thin culture” has hijacked most of our brains and convinced us all that there is something wrong with us. This is a massive topic of burnout because it is a question of taking authority back–not allowing a nebulous entity outside of ourselves tell us that we are ugly, undesirable, and need to take up less space in the world. Personal authority is all about realizing that the most important thing we can become is truly ourselves and NO entity in culture or the larger world can tell us that we are not enough. The books mentioned in Val’s transformative journey through THIN CULTURE recovery is called “The Anti-Diet” and “Intuitive Eating”
In this series wrap-up, Valerie is joined by Dr. Todd Frye and they dig into some of the nuances of trauma recovery work especially unpacking their hunches as to why Cami was so resilient in the face of such an intense trauma.
Cami and Valerie explore several experiences that helped Cami learn that trauma recovery is a process and that sometimes the emergence of symptoms (ongoing struggles with ‘bad days’, experiences of dissociation, and nightmares) are normal and that each experience has the potential to help her learn how to heal as she brought these into the light and shared them with those who love her.
Join Valerie and Todd as they introduce Cami, a brave young woman who wants everyone to know that hiding the secret of rape is destructive to the body, spirit, and soul. In this interview, Cami begins to share her experience of a kidnapping and rape nightmare that she experienced as a college student. And more important, she wants to share that healing is possible. She shares her story in hopes that all victims of rape will come forward and find healing.
Please join Valerie and Todd as they set you up to meet Dana, a delightful and sweet young wife and mother who has the courage to look at her anxiety of men, which stems from an early personal trauma and a community kidnapping in her childhood.
